HOW TO:  CUSTOMIZATION

Take Action Network (TAN)

Once you are signed-up for TAN it’s search engine is used to tailor the site to assist you. If you have filled in your home address in your profile, then TAN automatically determines what Congressional District (CD) and Legislative District (LD) you are in. TAN uses this information to generate “Daily Action Items” for you that can be of special interest to you.

Additionally, when you signed up via NCCI’s invitation, several Favorite sites were added to your account. (Favorites are discussed in a separate document.) Your default CD and LD information, along with your Favorites, are a powerful tool to make your TAN experience unique our NCCI group.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You can further tailor TAN to better meet your needs. The following are instructions on how to customize TAN that will make the “action items” you see unique to you.

1.  From your TAN Dashboard find and click the “+Search” button. (See Figure 1)

2.  A new window will appear that allows you to choose various categories to search on. (See Figure 2)

3.  Categories include Organizations, Issues, Location, Bills, and many more. Within each category are sub-categories. You are free to choose the top-tier category, or the sub-categories. You can also choose multiple categories as well. The more categories you choose, the more refined you search will be. (See Figure 3)

(Note – The number of “Action Items” decreases as multiple categories are chosen.)

4.  Scroll to the bottom of the Search Form once you are satisfied with your chosen categories. Give your new Search a name, and click “Save Search”. (See Figure 4)

5.  To find actions you can take based on your newly created Search, click the Take Action button in the upper left of your screen. (See Figure 5)

6.  Click on the “Suggested Actions” button to preview the drop-down menu, and choose your newly create Search. A new list of “Action Items” will populate your screen based on your search criteria you have chosen. (See Figure 5)
